As nerves and excitement riddle every fiber of my being, I take a bigger step toward my fitness and health goals. I've decided to commit to the Spartan Race. I'm not in this alone, I have a team of others wanting to do it with me. As well as the littles going to participate in the 1/2 mile and 1 mile events. How much fun will THAT be?
So much of this is physical, but even so, it is mental. Can I do this? Will I fail? Where do I begin? Will I ever be strong enough? Am I to old? Blessings have befallen, as Spartan racers are the greatest of support teams. They offer encouragement, support, and tips to get you through.
So, where do I start? It all starts with my nutrition. I am blessed to already be consuming the best nutrient dense foods on the planet, I'll just begin a stricter eating schedule and adhere to a different carb/protein/fat regimen. As I shred and cut my body, I will be getting leaner and stronger at the same time.
Next is the physical training. I'm a little concerned about the lack of opportunities to do some of the obstacles (ie: rope climb, bucket haul, etc.) but have come up with some great at home options to get implemented this next week. Also, I found a wonderful trail to run that has may uneven surfaces and hills to climb. That I'll need to conquer at least 4 times a week. and 3 times a week I'll cross train to include pull ups. Also add in a TON OF BURPEES!!! If you "fail" or skip an obstacle, the penalty is 30 BURPEES.... 30!!! I've been told to start and end my day with 30 Burpees AND for every 15 minutes into my runs, drop and do 30 burpees.
I'd be excited if more friends joined me on this personal journey, so blessed for the the team mates who have committed.
Things I need to learn to do:
- Bear Crawl
- Crab Walk
- Monkey bars
- Climb a rope
- Overcome a fear of jumping over fire!
Since I've committed to the race, Still committed to my nutrition and health, now it's only logical to commit to some all terrain shoes, compression clothing, and some serious tunes to get me through training.
I promise to do a weekly update post and DEFINITELY will do before and after pictures.
